Unlimited Plan users often find they’re not getting what they thought.
Everybody wants to get more for less, right? And what could be better than an “unlimited plan”? It’s like an “all you can eat buffet,” right? More is better. Unlimited is best.
Or don’t you fall for that argument?
Is it really unlimited?
There are lots of reasons to us on hold mesages to inform your telephone callers. The time your callers waste on hold is a marketing opportunity, and informing them about how you can help them makes sense. That’s what they called for.
Just about every marketer I talk with knows they want to create more “touch points” with their sales prospects, and they’re looking for success. When businesses sign up for unlimited updates of their on hold message, they do it with great intentions. An unlimited plan sounds great: they’ll keep their messages on hold updated every week, or even every day. They’ll advertise one day sales, and special offers. They’ll be able to react to new ideas, new competition, and promote new products and services more with an unlimited plan. But let’s talk about reality.
How often will you really change your on hold message?
I just spoke with an unlimited user, a practice manager at a medical office in New York City, NY. They were probably a typical user of the plan. She asked me about an unlimited updating and I told her that we didn’t have one. Then I learned that in the past year, she had updated her phone messages three times.
Actually the Unlimited Plan really gives you the option to change your messages once per week and not “unlimited.” Even though it’s almost Thanksgiving, her messages were talking about Easter (that was back in March). She went on to tell me that she didn’t had time to write a new script, but it was “on her list.” After submitting a script, it took 3 to 5 days to receive a new recording (that’s not bad, but not “unlimited”). The longest a production could be was 4 minutes, so some information may not fit. She told me that the Unlimited Plan came with free playback equipment, but that she had to work with the system’s manufacturer on a problem they had had. She told me that she had to sign a 3-year unbreakable contract, and pay up front. There was no option to break the contract or get a refund after the initial 30 days. So its not really an unlimited plan.
Unlimited on hold changes, or unlimited service?
Our clients don’t really need unlimited plan updates of their Informer Messages on hold. Even in New York, where the pace is faster than anywhere in the U.S. Changing your advertising every day would probably require an advertising department, or at least a dedicated person to come up with the right ideas.
Unlimited Plan for on hold messages, or more results?
On hold messages are a marketing tool. Like any tool, more is not always better. Better is better. When it comes to marketing, that means investing the time to understand the product or service, and the target market. It means making sure that all your (marketing) tools work together, like a team, to get the best results.
There are ways to get better results. The Informer lets you update on a schedule that will work best for you. Your service includes
– A reminder email every time you’re scheduled for an update
– A personal phone call to proactively give you ideas, tips, discuss past results, and talk about your future goals and opportunties
– Professional copywriting: we know you’re not a writer. That’s why we do it for you.
– The we’ll continue to revise your script until you think it’s perfect.
– And we’ll provide a broadcast quality recording that your callers will ask about
– You can also cancel your Informer service any time you’re not 100% satisfied. If your Informer Messages aren’t your best new marketing tool just cancel.
Delivering the right message to the right people at the right time is much more powerful than just having an unlimited updated. So which on hold message plan would work better for you?
