SD Card Reader

What would you like your messages on hold to play on?  Some inexpensive players use SD cards to store your on hold messages.  To store your recording on the SD Card, you either need a laptop with an SD Card slot, or an SD Card reader.

Storing your messages should be a simple process: erase anything that’s on the card, and then save your hold messages to the card.

If you have a laptop with card slots, you can simply insert the SD Card, navigate to your Messages on hold mp3 file, right click on the file, and “Save To” the SD card.

A client called me to say that his “cheap laptop” didn’t have card slots, so I had to give him a different option.

How to use an SD Card Reader

A SD Card reader is inexpensive and available at most discount retailers and office supply stores.  They’re also available from computer supply websites.  Click here to find a list of stores that can supply an SD Card reader.

The procedure is simple: insert the SD Card in the reader, plug the reader into your USB plug, and search for the new hardware under My Computer.  When you have found it, it’s just a matter of finding the mp3 file of your hold message, right click on the file name, and “Send To” the SD Card.  Once the file has been saved, you can remove the card from the reader, and insert it into your on hold equipment.

Save the SD Card Reader

You’ll need the SD card reader every time you update your hold messages, so hold on to it.  There are easier to use on hold players, but armed with your SD Card reader its pretty easy to load your new, updated hold messages onto your SD Card.
