On Hold Equipment

I can’t tell you how many companies have told me how frustrated they get them their on hold equipment doesn’t work.  “My hold messages aren’t playing.”  When I ask for more details, it usually turns out that they were playing their hold messages on a CD player, usually a “Walkman” style player. “I’ve replaced 3 of them already, and the CD player is broken again.”

CD players are great.  I still have one, because I have so many CD’s that I haven’t turned into mp3’s. They sound great during a quick trip in the car, or at a party.  CD quality is still “the standard.”  But CD players don’t make the best on hold equipment.
On hold equipment

CD Players aren’t great on hold equipment.

Why?  Because they wear out.  CD players are “consumer grade” equipment.  They’re made to sound great.  But they’re not made to play your hold messages 24/7.  That’s the way that hold messages work: your player keeps playing all the time, so whenever you put a telephone caller on hold your messages are playing.  On most phone systems (the ones that use an external player for your messages on hold) they “loop” so that even if you put several calls on hold at the same time.  When you use a CD player for your hold messages, it will sound great…for a while.  Eventually it will wear out.  So you messages on hold will stop playing, and you’ll never know.

Professional On Hold Equipment

Why do companies use CD players?  They’re cheap.  You can probably get one for $39.95 in a discount store.  Professional On Hold Equipment is different.  It’s industrial quality and made for 24/7 use.  We supply on hold equipment free (the Nel Tech Messager system) to every one of our full service clients.  We use them because they don’t wear out, and if they do, they’re backed by a 5-year guarantee.

On Hold Equipment that keeps on working

Professional On Hold Equipment is more expensive, but your marketing messages on hold will always play for your best customers, you won’t have to keep going out to Radio Shack to buy replacements….and filling up landfills.  Cheap mp3 players evidently have the same problem.

If your messages on hold are an important marketing tool, make sure they keep playing, and that usually means using professional on hold equipment.
