OHP 6000 digital players are an inexpensive way to play music on hold, messages on hold, or any phone recording you’d like your telephone callers to hear. There are lots of them offered for sale “used” on eBay and Amazon from businesses that tried them, but don’t use them any more. That raises a question that we’ll talk about a little later.
OHP 6000 players are simple to use, but not necessarily easy
The On Hold Plus is simple to use. Just program the OHP-6000 with your prerecorded mp3 recording, and it will play virtually forever. With no moving parts the on hold player should never wear out. While this may not be completely true, the number of used digital players on the market does make it sound like they last a long time. The system is simple, but not as easy as you may like. The challenge is programming the OH. The system has an internal digital memory that can be programmed using a USB Cable (included with the system). To use it, you’ll have to physically bring the OHP 6000 to your computer (or bring your computer to the OH) to make a physical connection. After that the “drag and drop” process is simple.
Using the OHP 6000 SD Card
A second way to program the player is with the on board SD card. If your computer has an SD card reader (most laptops do, most desktops don’t) you can use the same drag and drop method to drag an mp3 file to the SD card, and then replace it in the player. I just talked to a client who purchased an OHP 6000, and then and to buy a separate “SD card carrier” to plug into his USB port. Again, simple, but not easy.
Why are there so many systems available used? The most effective hold messages are usually updated on a regular basis: when economic conditions change, when your specific market changes, or when customer needs change (such as seasonally). Using a USB cable or SD card on the OHP 6000 isn’t the easiest way to do this. And there are easier to use alternatives.
