How to find customers without expensive advertising

If you’re wondering how to find customers, you’re probably thinking that you need a huge advertising budget (or at least a budget bigger that your competition has).  You’re probably already revamping your website, and getting ready for the biggest Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign ever.

Stop.  You don’t have to.

How to find customers

Right now you’re missing opportunities, and losing customers in Connecticut who want to buy from you.  They could be “first time” shoppers that your SEO has brought to your website or they may have already bought from you.  Either way, customers are slipping through your fingers.

How?

If I ask you about your “marketing,” what would you tell me about?  Probably about your advertising.  Maybe your website.  Because we all want to sell more, and the way to do that is by attracting new customers across Connecticut, right?

But think a minute: what are the most successful businesses you know?  The ones you spend money with?  They’re probably your local gas station, your grocery store, and Starbucks (or maybe you’re a “Dunkin” person).  You go back every morning for that morning wakeup.  You fill up at your local Exxon, or Chevron, or Speedway.  And you fill the ‘fridge at the same supermarket every few days.

These businesses, and others like them, aren’t just focusing on attracting new customers.  They’re focusing on you…the customer who keeps coming back…and they’re trying to sell you more…something new, or something different.  They know that repeat customers…loyal customers…are the ones who are most likely to buy more, and buy more often.  They’re the most profitable customers.

How can you sell more?

There are three ways:

  1. Cross Sell: The “Got Milk” campaign was a huge success.  Everybody buys cookies.  What do you need if you have cookies?  Milk.  Lots of companies get their payroll service from Paychex, so Paychex dosen’t have to promote Payroll to them.  But they can sell more: 401k plans, Debit Cards, Check signing, HR services…that’s how they increase their revenues.
What do your customers buy?  Now figure out what they’ll need to go with it.
  2. Increase buying frequency: give customers reasons to come back more frequently.  Run loyalty programs.  Run special offers “next week.”  Give discounts (or added incentives) for repeat purchases.  Remind them about the ‘staples’ they buy, so they don’t run out
  3. Up Sell: Everyone who calls Japan Airlines wants to go to Japan.  So Japan Airlines knew that they didn’t have to sell travel to Japan.  But if they advertised “Business Class” seats, every flight would be more profitable.
What’s the easiest way to do it?

The easiest way is simply by telling your customers about these offers, and the easiest way to do that is with Informer Messages on hold.  Informer Messages replace the sleepy music your telephone callers hear when they’re on hold with information about more of the best ways that you can help them.  They turn your “hold” time into a marketing opportunity.
