Free on hold music : Here’s how to get yours…legally

Free on hold music would be a great deal, right?
Here’s how to get yours, legally.

Hold music is a nice option to give your callers.  AT&T research shows that 69% of business telephone callers are asked (or forced) to wait on hold.  The average call is stuck on hold for over a minute.  That’s when callers start to get annoyed, and can hang up.  The easy answer is to give your callers something more interesting: why not free on hold music?

Most businesses that play music on hold just use the radio.  That’s actually a problem, because of licensing fees and music broadcasting rights.  You can find out more about on hold music licensing if you want to find out more about why playing the radio or your favorite mp 3 isn’t a good (or legal idea).  So where can you find free hold music?  Tunes from iTunes are not free on hold music!

Free on hold music does exist.

The Informer offers free on hold music to anyone who has an mp3 player to play it on.  Really…we do. Why?  Because we know that free hold music is nice.  Businesses don’t want to bore their callers to tears.  They want them to hear something more than dead silence on hold.  Free hold music that’s completely legal and fully licensed.  No problems with ASCAP or the other music licensing companies.

What will your free on hold music play on?

There are different ways to play your free on hold music: your iPod (expensive), other consumer grade mp3 players (cheap), and industrial grade mp3 players (made for playing on hold messages 24/7).  All three systems play mp3 files.

Pre-licensed free on hold music isn’t anyone’s favorite song on the radio.  It’s created for a specific job.  But it’s better than dead silence, and it’s legal.  Want free on hold music?

Free music on hold is OK.  But there are better solutions.  What about giving your callers information about what you do, and how you’re different from your competition?  How many of your callers know about all the ways you can help them? All your products or services?  The easiest sale  you can make is selling more to an existing customer, especially while they’re in the “buying mood.”  (That’s why we all buy the stuff on the ‘end-caps’ at the supermarket, or in the checkout line)
