Target Market is the very best group of consumers you can sell to. How do you define yours?

To succeed in sales, you have to know who your customer is, so ask yourself:  Who is your target market?  That depends on your business: It could be individuals who are newly retired…who just had their first baby…or who’ve just opened a new business.  As soon as you recognize your most profitable clients, target marketing is you most efficient and effective approach.

Who is your Target market?

What do you do?  Who needs what you do?  Why?  Your customers have wants and needs and problems that they want help for.  The more you understand they and their motives, the closer you’ll be to “profile” them (a term used by the New York Police Department for their suspects!) and be able to spot them easier.  Business is tough enough: if you know who your target market is before you walk into a room of people, you’ll be that much more successful finding them!

Focus on your target market and their characteristics

Can you define your desired market by age, sex, ethnicity, marital status or geography?  Many marketers use income to define their target market.  How about zip code?  Take the time to look at your best (most profitable) clients, and you’ll gain a snapshot of your target.

How to use information about your target market

Once you realize who your best customers are, it’s easier to predict where you can find them.  They’re soccer moms.  They shop at upscale New York markets like Balducci’s.  They’re business travelers who take 2.7 airline flights from New York to other major cities every month.  Now you’ve got the information you need to pinpoint them, refine your offer to them, and deliver it when they’re most likely to buy.

How to reach your target market

As soon as you have all this information, it’s time to test it, and come up with a marketing plan for reaching your desired customers.  Understanding your best customers is the first step.  Don’t think you have one?  We’ll prove you do, in a free 15-minute target market identification session.  In New York call 212-355-6982.  In Fairfield County CT call 203-655-3920.  Nationwide call 800-862-8896
